Barceloneta and Port Vell of Barcelona

La Barceloneta is the area of beaches closest to Port Vell (Old Port), north-east of the Mediterranean coast. You will find it at the end of La Rambla. It is Barcelona's main urban beach. It was once the old fishing quarter, but is now surrounded by lots of seafood restaurants and chirnguitos (little huts with tables where you can eat or drink). This area has adapted itself to the times and it is the most suitable expample of how tradition and modernity can co-exist in perfect harmony. The Barceloneta may not be the cleanest beach in the world, but it is definately one of the most enjoyable! Port Vell is the oldest area of Barcelona and after the Olympic Games in 1992, it became a modern and dynamic area of the city. And one of the most popular, too, as you will realise after having spent a whole day there! You can find a ton of cafés, restaurants, shops, a big cinema and a beautiful aquarium. Sit in the sun in one of the cafés on the docks and enjoy and exquisite Spanish meal! If you love picnicing, the benches overlooking the port are the perfect place for you! You can relax in the sun, feel the gentle breeze and watch the swaying sea. Enjoy a walk in its narrow ancient streets, taste its traditional seafood and don't forget to spend at least a day on the the beach!
