Barri Gotic of Barcelona

In the heart of the Ciutat Vella (Old City) you can find the Barri Gotic (Gothic Quarter). It is full of attractions and is well worth a visit. The most characeteristic sight in this quarter is the XIII century cathedral with its octagonal clock towers. Visitors are invited to take a lift to the top of the roof of the cathedral. There is a XIV century cloister, which is adjacent to the cathedral. In its central courtyard you can see 13 geese, each one representing one year in the life of the martyr Santa Eulalia, Barcelona's patron, who is buried in the cathedral. The Barri Gotic is characterised by narrow, winding streets which create quite a labyrinth. Get lost in its little streets and don't forget to look up and around you or you may miss some of the best spots! Relax in one of the many peaceful squares, eat tapas in some tascas and little bars, many of which remain undiscovered by the masses!

The Gothic Quarter if full of cafés and restaurants, especially around Plaça Reial. Its nightlife is extremely lively; it is always crowded with people and you are sure to find a nice little place in which to have a drink and a dance. If you like shopping, the best commercial area of this quarter is Calle Portal de L´Angel and you can also find nice little boutiques in Calle Avinyo. The Barri Gotic is Barcelona's cultural heart and it is great for any type of traveller! Believe me, you won't regret spending a whole afternoon in the streets of Barri Gotica!
