Need to know: Transport in Barcelona

The fastest and cheapest way of moving around Barcelona is using public transport. The city has an excellent subway system. Almost all  stations are clean and well lit.  Prices are reasonable and buying a multi trip pass is cheaper than buying single tickets each time.  A one-way ticket will cost around 1€.  There are five different lines and stations are located close to all the major tourist attractions. Trains run from 5AM to midnight on Mondays-Thursdays and Sundays and from 5AM to 2AM on Fridays, Saturdays and holidays.

Barcelona’s suburban trainservice, the FCG, (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya,) is also a useful travel option with 2 lines in Barcelona and 4 others going to nearby towns. Trains run from 5:45 AM to 12:05 AM on Mondays through Thursdays, from 5:50 AM to 2:15 AM on Fridays and Saturdays and from 5:50 AM to 12:02 AM on Sundays. Tickets cost around 1€.
If you prefer the bus, Barcelona offers a bus network with over 70 lines. It is cheap (around 1€) and is a good way of seeing the city. But it is one of the slowest modes of transport due to the intense traffic.
Do you want to tour the city in style? Well, a taxi is what you need! They are black and yellow and a green light indicates when they are available. Prices are displayed inside on meters, which are compulsory for all taxi companies. Be aware that this is the most expensive mode of transport, and not necessarily the fastest.
Have you ever considered some alternative ways of transport? Barcelona City Council website suggests that you travel round the city on foot or by bike. The site also shows all the pedastrian and cycle paths and the main bicylce rental points. This could be a more practical, healthy and amusing way to get around.  It 's a different and original way of see the city, so why not give it a go?
